"The Explorer's Air Yacht"
or
"The Flying Yacht"

was the first flying boat created by
Sikorsky Aircraft.  One hundred ten S-38 Sikorsky's  were
produced and used by adventure seekers
and fledging airline companies.

Chalks Airlines(Florida's own and the oldest continuously
operating airline in the world began operations with an
S-38.

Inter-Island Airways now known as Hawaiian Airlines
began 76 years ago with two of these aircraft.

Pan American World AirWays flew the S-38 on flights
from Minneapolis to such remote locations as Duluth, MN
during that same period.

The US Army put many of these aircraft to work during
the war.

Charles Lindbergh surveyed South America and Pacific
Ocean routes for Pan Am and also opened the mail
routes from Miami to Rio de Jeranio and Miami to
Panama.

Robert McCormick , a newspaper publisher, surveyed
commercial air routes between North America and
Europe using the S-38.

J. H. Whitney a venture capitalist used the S-38 for
Luxury Transport.

The Flying Hutchinsons made the first attempt by a
family to fly around the world.

Osa and Martin Johnson were film makers who explored
Africa in an S-38 making the first film documentaries and
writing books of their explorations.

Herbert Johnson, of the S.C. Johnson family, explored
South America in his S-38 in search of the carnauba wax
palm, the source of the world's hardest natural wax.
